The project “Intensive Empowerment of Human Rights Defenders in Armenia” was implemented by the “Free Citizen” Civic Initiatives Support Center NGO in cooperation with Protection International, with the support of the Heinrich Böll Foundation. Young people from Yerevan and the regions of Armenia participated in the training courses organized within the framework of the project.
During the trainings, participants deepened their knowledge of human rights, international organizations that protect these rights, peacebuilding and conflicts—including the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict—mediation, social work with persons with disabilities and other targeted groups, refugees, victims of domestic violence, minorities, and people living near the frontline or state borders. The program also covered international humanitarian law, war crimes, the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, and the International Criminal Court. A special training session was also conducted on personal data protection and information security.
In parallel with the activities in Armenia, Protection International implemented a similar program in Azerbaijan. At the end of the project, participants from both countries had the opportunity to communicate online with their counterparts. For security reasons, the name of the partner organization in Azerbaijan is not disclosed.
The budget implemented by the “Free Citizen” NGO within the framework of the project amounted to €23,440.
